ScHARR, The University of Sheffield

Inspired by a desire to answer questions raised while working as General Practitioner, I have been privileged to work within a dynamic primary research team at Sheffield University since 2008. Under the supervision of Professor Nigel Mathers, I was awarded an NIHR In Practice Fellowship in 2008 which has allowed me to personally develop my research project from a “post it note” idea during a busy surgery, through peer review processes, quantitative and qualitative data collection and I was awarded a PhD in March 2015.  alongside my research post I now work as a salaried GP in Derbyshire just a few miles away from Sheffield where I graduated with an MBChB in 2000. Following house jobs in Sheffield and a brief spell working as a junior doctor in Australia I returned to undertake my GP training in Sheffield at The Whitehouse Surgery in one of the most deprived areas in Sheffield. This training has proved to be very influential both on my clinical and research roles.
